Bluehost vs. Hostgator Hosting Assessment

By Bob Richards

The purpose of this post is to inform bloggers looking to host their Wordpress sites of my experience. It is not an advertisement for one company or another but simply my findings which I have documented at my main blog with Youtube videos.

[]Before Signing up with Bluehost, I compared them to Hostgator as well as Godaddy. I should point out that my objective is the hosting involving Wordpress sites. Some of what I document might not exactly apply to non-Wordpress websites most will.

Quickly, before comparing other features, I decided on Bluehost (at first, but read on) since I can have an unrestricted quantity of Wordpress sites for the same $6 each month. Most other website hosts I reviewed charged more for each site. Given that my personal objective is to possess a hundred plus Wordpress blogs working, it absolutely was truly appealing to pay only $6 month-to-month for that. I turned down Godaddy quickly as you don't get unlimited websites for the same price tag. Each website is extra. Also, not being a technical guy, I am not sure the amount of bandwidth as well as storage I personally use. Using Bluehost, these are endless and with Godaddy, aside from their top priced plan, their various other programs have restrictions.

Nevertheless, I desire to be sensible with this Bluehost evaluation. I am certain when you begin utilizing tons of storage space and data transfer usage and also have a huge number of site visitors each day, they will enforce a number of restrictions. So if you're a heavy user, then you may want to talk to them first. (I later found out, this is a big problem).

Another point I will talk about is that I have used Wordpress before but I am not really a geek. I don't know the way to change the php scripts or even anything at all with regards to php, style sheets, or even other technical stuff. It's tech gibberish if you ask me. You may need to work with the File transfer protocol functionality (despite the fact that a Wordpress user may possibly never ever need to) and Bluehost includes a tool that automates your setup of the File transfer protocol accounts using popular free file transfer protocol software such as CuteFTP and Core FTP.

Next, for me, was that Bluehost comes with an anytime money-back guarantee. So if you are not content, it is possible to go walking. You can work with them on a monthly schedule (you'll save a little should you subscribe for 12 months but it is only a few dollars). Nevertheless, with the year program, you get a free domain (worth about $12).

Up until I began my account with Bluehost, I wasn't aware of Simple scripts (1 button set up of Wordpress), but don't utilize any hosting company that doesn't have it. Simple scripts is really a push-one-button setup of a Wordpress Internet site . Actually, you push one option and this application creates your entire Wordpress site so that you can complete the first post in five minutes. It is really an amazing time-saving feature and don't utilize any hosting company that doesn't provide it.

The next problem for me personally, that we didn't understand until I had the Bluehost account for a few days, was the ability to acquire domains by way of Bluehost. It is limited as I was unable to obtain a .cc domain by way of the company. Even so, I realized that it wasn't a big issue as I was able to obtain all of my domains by means of my own Godaddy account and simply point these to Bluehost and use them within my Bluehost account. Don't forget, I'm not a techie so none of what I deal with in this article is incredibly hard.

After a few months however, I realized I made the wrong choice and have switched my hosting to Hostgator. As I added sites to my Bluehost account, the speed got worse and worse. I gave them a number of opportunities to correct this. Each time they had an excuse, blaming the slow speed on my sites. When I did some research, I found that many people have been dissatisfied with Bluehost. I cannot recommend them if you have more than a few small sites. []
